Neighbourhood Hotels is the accommodation arm of Neighbourhood Venue Co. We take on well-loved local pubs and rebuild the floors above them into places worth staying.
The idea
The best rooms in town are above the pub.
Almost every Australian town has one — a two-storey corner pub with a verandah, a good front bar and an upstairs floor that stopped being used properly decades ago.
Those floors were built as accommodation. Our work is to give them that job back: repair the building, rebuild the rooms, and leave the pub downstairs doing what it has always done.
It means a guest arrives somewhere that already has a life of its own. You are not checking into a brand. You are staying at the local.
How we work
Four things we hold to.
Buy the building, keep the local
We take on pubs that already matter to their neighbourhood. The regulars keep their seat at the bar. Nothing gets gutted for the sake of a look.
Restore, don’t erase
Original floors, pressed metal ceilings, cast-iron verandahs — we work with what the building already has and repair rather than replace.
Rooms that earn the stay
Upstairs floors in old pubs were often forgotten. We rebuild them properly: good beds, real bathrooms, quiet where we can get it.
The venue comes first
A hotel above a bad pub is just a room. The kitchen, the bar and the welcome downstairs are the reason to book.
